Comenius Trip @ Brighton & London
Posted by Shiny
We just finished the S1 exam, which is the first exam of the summer. It has been renamed “Suck 1” by us. S1 is so easy that it doesn’t make sense for most of the time. It is so easy that it is also easy to lose marks due to different standard or ways of calculating things.
After the exam when I went out of the exam hall, the Italian students suddenly came to me. What a surprise! Then I got lots of kisses from them. Yeah, it is 15th May already. The Europe Plus Comenius Project is having an event in the UK again.
Happy still to see the old friends after three months since the trip to Italy. I didn’t understand why we’d lost the passion on meeting friends, yet the thing is we still miss and like our old friends. Confucius once said, “Isn’t it pleasant for an old friend who lives far away to visit you?” Life is like that, sometimes passion just lasts for three minutes. However, for those which really last long, it will become our great memory eternally.
After the campus trip, the students went to a concert, but it was a pity that I had to take some classes, so I didn’t go with them. But during the campus tour, the Italian girls asked me a question: “Shiny, there are so many beautiful girls in your college… Do you have a girl friend?” It wasn’t the first time for them to ask me the same question. They are curious and I care about it as well. And I need to repeat the answer once and once again. Yeah, for the past 20 years, I’ve never been in love. I also wish I could. Amor and Cupid got angry with me I suppose. Then I started to lose interests on girls. But please calm down, I am not yet “homo”.
In the evening, we had a dinner in the Chinese restaurant Good Friends. I am honored to help sort out the dinner stuff. I am really lucky to have a chance from college to organize such a big event.
People started turning up from 7:20 pm and the restaurant soon got filled. People were excited about the chopsticks and we launched some quick lessons of using chopsticks for them. Five round tables were utterly stuffed. “Have you all had enough practice (for chopsticks application)? Shall we start our dinner?”
The food then started coming out from the kitchen. But unfortunately, we found that the Italian girls don’t feel like eating the Chinese food. They wondered whether they could get some olive oil to mix rice. I tried my best but we couldn’t solve it. Honestly speaking, even I didn’t have the appetite to eat much. Some people said it might due to the fact that before the dinner I was busy walking around from table to table to get things prepared which might have taken away my appetite. Nevertheless, I like helping with these things.
One of the girls told us that she didn’t like pork. And she doesn’t like fish either. Her conclusion was then “I didn’t like nothing.” (Note: Double negative for Italian, not regarded as a grammatical mistake in this case) Guess what, as a consequence, the girls ended up with eating chips. I am pretty sorry about that.
It is quite amusing to see them using chopsticks to pick up food. Some intelligent girls learnt quite well and could use chopsticks adroitly. Experiencing a new life style is usually of great fun, but everyone has their own living style, for the long term, it may not be that interesting any more. And there is no such a thing as “best” in the world. Something which you regard as treasure may be regarded as rubbish by someone else. It seems that everyone knows this simple rule in the world, but not many people are always aware of acting correctly. We usually treat our own opinion as the public opinion but actually not. Here comes a philosophical question, yet I don’t bother talking about it. I believe that people have something irreplaceable within their heart. That’s what I’ve learnt from the dinner.
Try to learn more about others. Communication is not only about one person.
