One Week and a Bit More of My Life

Posted by Ksenia

Hello my dear readers!  Hope you are enjoying your time as much as do!  Before I forget – if you have something to say or to ask – please to not hesitate to leave comments.  I will be very happy to answer you!

Ok, last time I wrote that my mum was coming.  It was great!!  She was in Brighton for few days and every evening after college I went to meet her, we had a nice dinner in a restaurant and a long chat, of course!  Obviously I did not do much work, but my teachers were real angels – very understanding as usual.  On Friday we went to London by train.  That is very convenient, only 50 minutes and you are in London Victoria!  What did we do in London?  I think the answer is quite predictable…  Like every female human being, me and my mum love shopping!

But London is much more than just great shops – after visiting our favourite places we decided to find an unusual restaurant to eat.  I’ve been to London so many times but I could never find China Town, do not ask me why.  I am absolutely hopeless and never know were to go.  But this time we were well prepared, we followed the map and finally succeeded!  That is really a great part of the city which does not look British at all and there were so many restaurants there, that the choice was extremely difficult.  But the food was really worth it!

We also visited Tate Britain Gallery (something for our cultural development).  I was very pleased to see some paintings of Brighton.  One of them was done two centuries ago on the exact place where Brighton Pier is situated now.  It was such a strange feeling to see it…  I also really liked several pieces done by artist called Rossetti.  Surprisingly he was born in England, even though his family name sounds Italian.

Of course it was a bit sad to say goodbye to my mum, but I understand that she had to leave.  Anyway I will see her and all my family quite soon again – Easter holidays are not far away!

College life was really exciting this week.  On Monday he had several very interesting discussions on the Oxbridge meeting.  Mr Corcut started by stating how important good English is for our future success and then we went on talking about education systems in China and Russia, reading, history and many other topics.  It was a real conversation and everybody had an opportunity to express his own views and opinions.

The best teacher of Chemistry that ever existed (ok, maybe I am a bit subjective), or simply Mr Loft, showed us some experiments with chlorine, bromine and iodine.  Chlorine is actually quite dangerous – it is widely used to kill bacteria.  But do not worry, we were absolutely safe – you can tell it by the fact that am writing this post now!

On Wednesday there was a Philosophy lesson and we were discussing Socrates.  I found out that my method of learning (constantly asking lots of questions) is known as dialectic – “seeking the truth by process of question and answer”.  Hope it will comfort my teachers…

On Friday we usually go out – and this week was not an exception.  Firstly we (it was a Bulgarian-Russian group but Bellerbys College may be proud of us – we were speaking English most of the time) went to an Italian restaurant and then watched a film at the Odeon cinema.  The film is called National Treasure and we really liked it. There is a lot of action, beautiful places, very good actors and an intriguing story.  Even the fact that America was shown as the centre of the universe (as usual in their films) did not spoil the film!

During the weekend the weather was fantastic – warm, sunny and almost no wind.  Obviously we could not miss it – so the whole day I was out and we were walking on the seafront till the sunset.  So beautiful!!  Unfortunately my homework was waiting quite patiently for me, and on Sunday after talking to my parents on Skype and writing letters to my friends I started studying.

That is it for now!  And Happy Chinese New Year!!

Hello, Ksenia.
I`m not sure that your pc understand russian letters, so I`ll write in English :)
So, I study in Russian school now, in 11 form. After school I have an idea to study in UK, in Bellerbys, for example. Could you please write me, how is it - to live alone in foreign country, to learn everything in English? As I imagine, it is much more interesting and usefull to teach only 4-5 subjects.. I`m right?
Maybe, we can talk via ICQ or Skype?
Thank you for an interesting posts!
Yours sincerely,
Dima :)

Privet Ksusha, not sure if you remember me, but I am glad that everything is ok with you in Brighton: finishing GSCE and then A-levels. You seem to have integrated very well in the English society. =)
